In cats with short hair, the excretion of ingested hair is not a problem, but sometimes too many hair gather in the stomach. The accumulation of hair in the cat’s stomach often brings to vomiting, peristalsis disorders, fecal calculations or intestinal obstruction. In the worst case, swallowed hair leads to an obstruction of the digestive tract, endangering the life of the cat.

Vomiting of cats: causes and symptoms

To begin with, it is useful to make a distinction between vomiting and what is called «suffocation». In the case of vomiting, there is usually a retraction of the gastric content (there is also torsion and abdominal pumping). In the case of Volvolus, there is a retraction of food from a higher height of the canal than that of the stomach.

The cat’s vomiting can be caused by:

• Excessive hair in the digestive tract;
• a foreign body in the stomach;
• Bacterial and viral diseases of the digestive tract;
• Secondary cause of other diseases
• renal failure
• influence organs (pancreas, liver, inflammation of the gallbladder);
• intestinal obstruction.

As you can see, there are many causes of vomiting in cats. However, it is worth remembering that they must not be associated with primary gastrointestinal disorders. If a cat vomits after eating, the appearance of the vomiting can say a lot to the owner about the cause of the condition. The non -digested foods sometimes indicate a defect in the esophagus or problems in the upper part of the digestive tract. The expulsion of digested food content indicates that food reaches the stomach, but that the animal diet is inappropriate. This can be caused by a sudden change of food. The new food irritates the gastric mucosa and causes strong spasms, which leads to vomiting.

Vomiting frequently to the cat

If the animal has problems with accumulated hair loss, the following symptoms can occur:

• dry cough
• weight loss, apathy,
• constipation,
• suffocation,
• Frequently vomiting, which usually occurs after drinking water and the eater.

However, to get rid of excess hair, the cat instinctively triggers the reflection of vomiting. If too many hair accumulates, the animal cannot expel excess balls. This leads to the irritation of the mucosa, which can cause inflammation and even intestinal obstruction.

In the worst case, pilobes (hair swelling) can block the cat’s digestive tract, endangering the life of the animal.

What do you give to a cat when vomiting?

If a new food is the cause of your cat’s vomiting, return to the previous food and start mixing food – old and new, increasing the percentage of new food. The vomiting reflection can also be caused by a too long pause between meals and too greedy diet, in which case the frequency must be increased.

A vomiting cat is often exposed to the risk of dehydration, therefore drinking water must be administered. In addition, the animal is exposed to the risk of electrolytic disorder, which is dangerous for its health and life. You don’t have to wait for the vomiting to stop alone, nor do you have to give medicine to your cat without consulting a specialist first. The veterinarian will quickly integrate the necessary substances after examining your pet. The doctor can also take drugs against vomiting.

It is worth following the well -being of your pet to prevent risks. If the worrying symptoms persist, it is essential to bring your cat to the vet.
