Children dream of having a pet and parents dream of having a pet that is not too difficult to maintain. This is why hamsters or rabbits are so popular, but recently the company has become increasingly popular.
These are easy pets, but there are some important details that you need to consider.
Domestic hedgehog is not a very active animal during the day. The cost of maintenance is low. Hedgehogs as prizes with food and cat food due to the rich composition. Some examples love to bathe and walk around the house.
Hedge as a pet
The hedgehog is increasingly considered a pet. The African dwarf hedge is known to be the smallest kind of wild curls in the world. It is a popular animal that is not easy to grow, because it is reluctant to interact with its peers. Each hedgehog should have an individual reproductive number and a pedigree, which is issued by the Pygmine Riccio club in the United Kingdom.
The natural habitat of the hedgehog is represented by the savannah or steppe areas of Central Africa (from Senegal to Ethiopia and from the Zambezi river). These mammals live up to 6 years, but they can live up to 11 years in good condition. Unfortunately, they survive between 2 and 3 years in natural conditions. They are very active at night and sleep quietly during the day. They can fight with other curls in the cage, which is why they prefer to be alone.
The curls must be maintained in a cage or in the terrarium with a minimum size of 1 m². Experts suggest that a space of 120 x 40 x 35 cm (about 1.7 m²) is the best. A larger space is always better, because curls are very active at night. In order for the animal to not be trapped due to the lack of space, it is better to buy a terrarium with a suspended drum, but safe, that is, without scissors and with built steps. The hedgehog will be able to spend his time actively when the caregiver go to bed.
Fortunately, it is not a very noisy animal. The curls should be raised at a temperature of 22-24 ° C, where they feel better. A lower temperature puts them in winter sleep (lethargy) and a higher temperature puts them in summer sleep (summer).
How much does a curl of pets cost?
A curly of pets from a certified breeder or from a pet shop costs up to 650 pounds. If the price is low, for example, about 300 Ron, check the source of the animal.
The maintenance costs of a hedgehog are not very high, but amount to a few tens of Ron per month. The expenses include dry or humid foods, prizes, sawdust and wooden litter. The hedgehog can be administered in the form of prizes, eggs or fruit.
What do the heirs eat?
Domestic curls are fed with high quality foods for cats, enriched with worms, ram, earth, crickets or insect larvae. These are the favorite goodies of this mammal. You can also buy nutritional foods for curls, which offers a balanced series of nutrients. Both types of food can be ordered online or can be purchased by a pet store.
It is important to make sure that food does not contain cereals, both of high quality, does not contain preservatives and allergens (gluten, eggs) and must be fed at room temperature. The curl diet must be rich in protein and low fat. A strong boiled egg or small quantities of fruit (apple, hair, strawberries or melons) can be offered occasionally as pampering.
The hedgehog also eats meat, which must be chopped, but the meat is prohibited. It cannot be given lactose, because it does not tolerate it. Other prohibited foods are: Onion, carrots, corn, walnuts, cabbage and peppers. The animal must receive drinking water, which can only be administered in a bowl, because products in the form of water can damage the curl teeth. The water should be changed every day.
