The adorable rabbit has admirers all over the world. The small size of their body, the soft fur and the sweet expression of the muzzle make them a frequent member of the families who live in the cities.

The history of the rabbits in this breed is lush and colorful and began around 1972. At that time, the rabbits were called «Klein Widder», which in German means «little ram», and were a mixture of great German lop and a rabbit plot. Apparently, they resembled the mini lop rabbits, now known, but they were much larger and heavier: their body weight was about 4 kg. The promoter of this breed, Bob Herschbach, conducted some copies in the United States, where, under the guidance of the American Breeders Association, a growth destined to reduce body weight and rabbits. In 1977 the goal of miniature rabbits was achieved and the name of the race was changed by «Klein Widder» a «Mini Lop». The person responsible for the promotion and improvement of the new Mini Lop – Herb Dyke Miniature rabbits was chosen, who 3 years later led to his recording and elaboration of a breed standard.

The miniature ram is the smallest of the family of rabbits that are not dwarfs. Its body weight should be estimated between 1.5 and 2 kg. The mini rabbit is a medium -sized rabbit with a compact body. His head is strongly built, but proportional to the body, placed on a short neck. At the mini lop the jaw should not be marked. The chest is wide. The chest is round and wide, strong. The rabbits in this breed have rather short legs, but the front legs are thicker than the back. Treatment

The mini lop rabbits are not pretentious in terms of fur care. They are perfectly able to wash and keep themselves clean. They do not need additional washing and the rabbits bath can even damage them to reduce their immunity and cause cooling, and the stress of the procedure will influence their delicate hearts.

It is recommended to comb the rabbits at least once a week. This will remove the fallen hair, reduce hair loss and keep it bright and in good condition. It is important to take into account the fact that the miniature ram fur is detached. During this period, the combing frequency should be significantly increased.

The claws of the rabbit should be cut regularly, preferably once a month. As with other animals, they have a nucleus and blood vessels. When cutting the jackets, keep a safe distance so as not to cut the area and cause bleeding.

In order to keep your teeth healthy, with an adequate length, rabbits must be made available strong objects to chew. Their teeth grow throughout their lives, so it is important that they are naturally abbreviated. Wood, toys dedicated to rabbits, strong sticks and various types of fruit trees work well as chewing objects. Too long teeth are a cause of pain, discomfort and problems with consumption. Mini Lop, like all rabbits, reacts badly to air currents. Then cool quickly and lose weight. In addition, they are subject to obesity, so it is very important to feed them correctly and fix the portions so that they do not eat too much. Miniature ram will eat as much as they are, even if it is a portion for two days.

The diseases to which rabbits are prepared by all breeds are mixed, calicivirus, pasllosi, coccidiosis. Rabbits should be vaccinated according to the recommendations of the veterinarian and Dewar regularly.

Their long and suspended ears can become a source of problems: dirt and dust are easily collected in them and Rabbit is not always able to reach exactly all corners and cracks. Excessive graffles of the ears can mean scabbias or otitis, which is a fairly common condition to mini-plops.

The average life expectancy of the mini rabbits is 10 years. With good care and proper nutrition, they enjoy good health for a long time.

Maintenance and nutrition

Rabbits need a safe space where they can rest in silence. Their house should be a galvanized galvanized cage. For a bodily size rabbit with standard, a 100x50x30 cm cage is sufficient. If you have more space available, the better for your rabbit, the bigger the cage, the more you will feel. When choosing a cage, it is necessary to keep in mind that the rabbit must be able to stretch in it, that is, its length must correspond to the length of a wide rabbit. The height of the cage must be large enough to allow the rabbit that rises on the rear legs. The cage should not be in the air currents or in a place with excessive sunlight.

The bottom of the cage must be filled with soft litter, wooden sawdust or thin pellets. The litterie should be removed daily and from time to time, at least once a month, it is advisable to replace the substrate, disinfect the cage and fill it again.

There should be no missing water, a bowl, a hay and auxiliary articles, such as chewing objects, toys, etc. In addition, the rabbit should be able to run out of the cages and it is recommended that at least 2-3 hours a day are able to run free with the caregiver. Miniature rabbit walks should be introduced gradually to allow the animal to get used to it. During the walks, it should be kept in a stubbornness and the fixed leash. These rabbits are curious, so a moment of carelessness during a walk could end badly. If you decide to go out with the rabbit, it is advisable to vacate it and check it periodically the animal. It shouldn’t be exposed in full sun.

Rabbits should be fed with mixtures based on herbs, vegetables and grass. There are many foods ready for rabbits. It enriches the nutrition of the rabbit with fruit (apples, pears, etc.), additional vegetables (carrots, tomatoes, spinach, sorcova, etc.), herbs (lion tooth), branches of fruit trees and shrubs and, of course, hay – good quality, not dusty and must be available in the bowl.

The refuge should be washed every day and the water should be replaced with fresh water.

Character

Mini Lop rabbits are very sociable animals. They like to be with humans and other animals. They are anxious to learn and, with regular and systematic learning, they will respond to their names and can perform simple orders. Learning should be made in short sessions in which to reward the desired behavior. Rabbits should not be scolded or their voice is raised.

Miniature rabbits are very lively rabbits, they like to play and they are very curious, they have to look everywhere. They like to jump and run for hours. The mini rabbits should be equipped with pear or are authorized to go out in the apartment, but if the dangerous areas and equipment have been surrounded.
