History of Chausie cats

The cats of the Chausie breed are a modern breed that is very young. They are hybrids of cats Marsh Wild (Salis Chaus) with abyssy cats and American cats with short hair.

After the end of the Second World War, there was the desire to reconstruct the lost breeds, but also to create something new, unusual and fresh. Wild animals have attracted everyone’s attention. Gatti’s breeders wanted to create a race that would have been misleading with the cat Marsh Wild, but who have a friendly and sociable character, like exotic or American cats. The first attempts to create these cats took place in the United States around 1960, but all the hybrids obtained at that moment were infertile, only a small part of the females that was irregular fertile. Bypass this natural block to create hybrids was a real performance for breeders, for which they used practically all possible races of cats. Only with the passage of time the two main races and the target combined with the swamp cat: the Abyssinian cat and the American cat with courts.

The highest growth activity of the breed took place in the United States and the first Chausie farm is considered that of Wildkatz. A pure breed chausia does not separate more than 3 generations of Paloue cat and each chausia in its pedigree must have at least one cat ancestors from quagmire.

The breed was recorded only in 1995 and obtained the sample status only 18 years later!

The Marsh Cat (Felis Chaus)

The protoplast of Chausie cat is the marsh cat or Felis’s caus. He is also called Gatto Reed. The swamp cat is included in the red list of threatened species and is located in the Middle East, along the Nile valley and the central Asia. Felis Chaus was already known in ancient times. He has always kept safe, but relatively close to people’s homes. He liked to observe the settlements and sometimes benefit from approaching people.

What does a chausie cat look like?

Chausie is a high and big cat. The body weight of an adult varies from 6 to 11 kg. The entire posture of Chausie’s cat recalls a wild cat. The silhouette is strong and athletic. Long legs allow the cat to jump a lot and run with confidence. The chest is expansive and deep and the tail is of medium length.

The head of the Chausie cat is slightly elongated. The marked stop, the shaped cheekbones and the strong mustache give the cat a wild character. The eyes are slightly oblique, from medium to small. The color of the intense or golden yellow eyes, rarely brown or light green. He has great ears, sitting in his head.

The cat can have a short or medium fur. However, it is always made up of fur and soft hair. The whole fur is elastic, strong, but also soft. The color of the Chausie cat can be that of the cat swamps in the wild oa, rarely black-silver or black.

Chausie cat has a powerful exceptional character and has considerable statements. The cats in this race need a lot of space to run, jump, play, look at. They have inexhaustible quantities of energy. They do not adapt to a small apartment, the best option for these cats is a large house with a stove built for cats. Like space, Chausie needs her people. These cats feel very fast and very strong. They must be placed in a house where there is really someone there all the time. Chausie tends to choose a single love for himself, who does not leave for a moment. And the other family members receive affection, but has more to do with the desire to play or receive attention. These cats understand each other well with other animals, for example with a dog, and also live in harmony with children, even with many children. However, contacts here should always be under the supervision of a career for adults. Chausie can show her dissatisfaction with strong bites or scratches.

The close affinity with the cat Marsh Wild means that Chausie has a great element of wild. This can be manifested by the bite or by the scratches mentioned above, disturbed by the feline body language, as well as scratching the furniture or learning to use the litter. These behaviors can occur and the potential tutor must be aware of it, but does not apply to all the cats of this race.

Chausie cats are very intelligent and perceptive. They surprise the negligence of their caregivers in a beat of eyelashes and exploit the opportunity. An unknown wardrobe? The cat will be there. Leaving goodies for cats or meat cut for dinner? You can wake up both without goodies and without dinner. Free by leaving the house? This is the most dangerous situation, because in a second the cat may not be with us. With Chausie, it is necessary to have the eyes around the head and adapt the house for a big cat. It will be necessary to fix the windows, purchase a support for large and resistant scratches, to provide numerous toys and olfactory rugs. Chausie cats like nature and even playing in water is not a problem.

The health of the cat Chausie

Chausie cats are considered strong, resistant and with a good resistance capacity. This is both an advantage and less. This is because Chausie’s cat will eventually manifest that something is not good. Therefore, it is necessary to close your pet closely and regularly examine your cat to veterinary analyzes: blood and urine once a year in the case of a healthy animal.

Due to their association gathered with wild cats, Chausie tends to react negatively to trade and all modified. Allergic reactions – food or skin – are common to these cats. These cats behave best with a barf diet for meat cats. The division of the meat is also good for jaws and teeth. You should also carefully choose the litter and cat sand. Surely, the litter is good to choose the largest and most open, while the litter is closer to the ground, that is, bentonite. This will help to learn the cat to use the litter faster and minimize the risk that the cat refuses the litter.

Chausie – Price

Chausie cats are very expensive and practically not existing in Romania. The reproduction of Chausie Cats should be sought in the United States, where the price for a Chausie kitten is around $ 5,000. The high price is due to the small number of breeders, the close relationship of the cat with wild cats and the difficulty of reproduction itself. Until today, there are still chickens that do not respect the model and are significantly depicted by objectives: these kittens cannot be authorized for further reproduction and cannot participate in the exhibitions. The genetic instability of the breed is still a problem that breeders have to face. However, intensive reproductive work allows us to see the future of the brightly colored Chausie race.
