The moment and the exact place of the origin of this breed are unknown. It is known that the first records of Asian dogs climbed the seventeenth century. However, these dogs are estimated to have a much longer story. This is highlighted by the fact that a second breed of dogs by Brindini, Rhodesian Ridgeback, is associated with South Africa and the races probably have a common ancestor and are genetically related. The distances that separate Asia and Africa for a long time indicate the initial and previous origins of Thai Ridgeback, certainly before the seventeenth century.

Thailand is considered the oscillation of the Thai breed. For a long time, the breed has been isolated from the intersection with other dogs and, therefore, by the natural expansion of the genetic background. As a result, genetic diseases were widespread among dogs. Fortunately, over the years, the situation has changed and a wider genetic exchange has been possible. From the beginning, these dogs have been trained as hunting dogs. They had to be fierce, courageous and powerful, the Thai Ridgeback specialized in strengthening hunting, in particular the biggest hunt, such as deer and wild boars. Since the breed has grown in popularity and widespread in other countries, Thai dogs have started to be used in other ways. They proved to be effective as guard dogs, their threatening appearance, barking and ferocity have certainly helped them in this sense. Currently, Thai Ridgeback Dog is even suitable for families, but must be provided with natural behavioral needs.

The Thai Ridgeback dog was recognized by the FCI in 1993 and included in group V of Spitz and primary customs and in section 8 primary hunting dogs with a strip on the back.

What does the Thai Ridgeback dog look like? Breed standard

Thai Ridgeback dog is a race of medium -sized dogs, with a strong and muscle figure engraved in the form of a rectangle. The standard allows a big difference both in the height and in the weight of dogs in this breed. An adult Thai dog can reach a body weight of about 20 kg (females) up to about 30 kg (males), with a height of 51 – 56 cm (females) or 56 – 61 cm (males).

The back of the dog is straight, the relatively deep chest, reaching the elbows, but without a pronounced sternum. The abdomen is slightly high. The legs are straight, muscle, well angry. The tailing of the Thai dog is high, thick and thinner at the tip. It is often consumed standing.

The average life expectancy of the Thai species is 12 years old, the longer specimens that live up to 14 years.

Thai Ridgeback does not require special fur cure. It is sufficient to collect the fallen hair once a week by brushing it with a brush and then polishing with a fur glove.

A Thai Ridgeback puppy costs about 8,000 Ron. The high price for a puppy is due to the small number of FCI keys in this breed and the dogs for reproduction are far imported.
