Keeping the dog caring is not a simple task, especially when you have a bathing lover in the mud at home and the roller in everything it gets. What about other aspects of hygiene? The variety and frequency of care treatments for our pet depend largely on the dog’s race and its lifestyle. Respect for different basic rules can protect the quadruped from numerous medical conditions.
1. The fur brush
The basis of each dog care is the brush. Most dogs love the comb, and in the event that it is not, try to change the brush, because an inappropriate one can irritate or even damage the skin and therefore cause dissatisfaction with our quadruped. Regular brushing helps to remove the dirt from the hair and then prolong the duration between the bathrooms. Long hand dogs need to touch more often than those with short hair and neglecting long hair can lead to tangles that you can hardly remove. In the case of dogs with long hair, it is worth asking for professional grooming services. If we decide to cut the dog alone, we must remember to cut the shorter hair in the anus area and the vulva/penis for hygienic purposes. In the case of races with rough hair, it is necessary for regular hair (trimming), that is, the removal of the dead hair combing and cutting with comb and special scissors. For the cutting procedure we can also plan the quadruped to the groomer.
2. The dog’s dog
Another basic toilet procedure is the battery of our Quadruped. The first bathroom can be done as soon as possible after reaching the age of 3 months, if necessary. In general, dogs should not be wet at all, unless you get dirty or there is such a need for long hair care. In the case of mature dogs, the bathroom usually every 3 months is a minimum ray, but in the case of dogs with long hair or which likes puddles, it is necessary more often. However, we must remember that each bathroom means weakening the natural skin protection barrier, which can lead to fungal and bacterial infections on its surface. Often, the owners fall into a vicious circle when the excessive development of mushrooms and bacteria on the skin takes place after the bathroom, begins to worry about the unpleasant smell of the dog and decide to wash it again, which aggravates only the problem. During the bathroom, it is very important to take care of the dog’s comfort, especially for those who are afraid. First of all, we must be calm and the bathroom must be like a pleasant massage and not as a struggle for life and death. Very important are used cosmetics; I do not recommend anti-pure shampoo because they can irritate the skin and fleas, although in lesser quantity, they will return to the animal. In the case of the festival with these parasites, refrain from taking a bath and going to the vet to choose the appropriate preparation. In addition to shampoo, you must certainly use those destined for dogs. Preparations for people can cause more damage than good for the dog’s skin. When you choose a shampoo, choose well known brands, even if they are usually a little more expensive. Especially for dogs with long hair, you can use the conditioner or lanolina to relieve the subsequent brushing of the fur.
The last rule is to avoid the head area during the bathroom, in particular the ears, to avoid the development of mushrooms in the ears channels.
3. Dear of the ears and eyes
The eyes and ears of our quadrupites require particular attention. These are very delicate and sensitive places and their hygiene is particularly important. The area around the eyes can be washed with a swabs in essence of tea or saline solution to remove the dirt accumulated in the corner of the eyes, which slides from the surface of the eyeball with tears. The ears can also be easily cleaned with wet gauze to remove excess wax and powder. Frequent ears checks are important especially in dogs with left ears, in which even a small amount of humidity in the ears channel can cause mycosis. If your dog increases a large amount of hair inside the ear, it should be removed regularly, as it promotes the accumulation of wax and dirt and develop microorganisms. The excessive amount of secretions both in the eyes and in the ears requires veterinary control, because it is often associated with infection.
It would be good to get used to your dog with washing on the teeth, although it is true that this knowledge is useful only in the dog for a few years when the risk of tartar is increased – but very rarely a dog accepts the washing of the teeth. A wide range of pasta dough and brush for dogs is available on the market. In case of tartar, do not forget to go to the veterinarian’s control, so that he can remove what you cannot have normal washing. If your quadruped has problems with tartar, it is worth thinking if its diet is appropriate and preparations that slow down the tartar deposit. The choice is very high, with added liquids in water and enzymatic pasta, to goodies and food that helps the dog with this problem. The most important thing is not to leave the unrelated problem, because in this way the animal exposes the pain and loss of teeth.
4. Cut the claws
The last element of the basic hygiene procedures of our beds is the cutting of the claws. Our dogs go most of the time on smooth surfaces and rugs, and for a walk more often they run on the grass and not on the hard sidewalk. So it is no wonder that they do not correctly cut the claws and their regular cut is very important for their comfort and health. However, it is important that when the claws are cut, they do not affect the canal that crosses them, consisting of blood vessels and nerves. Once the animal has been injured, it will not allow you to cut the claws a second time. If you don’t feel sure to perform this procedure yourself, you can call the groomer or veterinarian.
The regular procedures for hygiene and the care of our quadruped will save him from unpleasant conditions such as otitis, tartar, hair cut and excess stressful visits to the veterinary office. When we decide to have a dog, we have to calculate all these activities in your free time, especially when we choose to have a long -term dog.
The texts on the blog are not medical advice and do not replace the visit to the vet.
