Diarea in dogs is a fairly common condition that can have many different causes. In the case of trivial food poisoning, the animal is treated with domestic remedies. Sometimes, however, diarrhea is a symptom of more serious diseases. Therefore, in any case, it is necessary to notice the quadruped.
Diarrhea is not an disease itself: it is a symptom of other conditions that often require the treatment of the cause. Regardless of the procedure, it is worth mitigating the disturbing symptom to save the suffering animal and prevent the dehydration of his body.
Causes of diarrhea in dogs
Of the many possible causes of diarrhea in dogs, food poisoning is the most common. It can be a consequence of the wrong diet, but it can also happen – regardless of the master’s efforts – the quadrupeds to find and eat something inappropriate or obsolete during a walk. Although these situations are generally difficult to avoid, it is necessary to take care of the correct quadruped diet:
- With their high quality and balanced food;
- Do not feed him with food for humans, in particular with debris on the table;
- Avoid sudden changes in the diet;
- Eliminates products that cause food intolerance to dogs.
Diarrhea can occur in dogs after vaccination, reduced or administration of drugs and when the animal is subject to strong stress. Often, diarrhea accompanies diseases, from mild bacterial or viral infections, to infestations with parasites or serious conditions as cancer. While accompanying symptoms such as vomiting or high temperature are completely normal in food poisoning, bloody diarrhea in a dog can indicate a serious inflammation of the intestine. Therefore, The diarrhea of unclearziology that persists for more than 1-2 days requires a visit to the vet.
Acute and chronic diarrhea in dogs
Diarea in dogs can take two forms: acute and chronic. The first is usually a consequence of food poisoning. It suddenly appears and usually disappears by only 1-2 days. Very often it does not significantly affect the well -being and activity of the dog. It can be treated symptomatically with domestic remedies. The chronic form is associated with a greater number of accompanying symptoms (diarrhea in the dog with mucus or traces of blood, quick weight, high temperature, apathy) and is a condition that endangers the health and life of the dog. Not only does it indicate a continuous process of illness, but can lead to the deterioration of the animal’s health, in particular – severe dehydration and loss of electrolytes. In the case of small dogs, older or weakened by other diseases, this condition can cause death. Chronic diarrhea in a dog always requires medical treatment. A well -founded reason to consult the vet is also an acute recurring diarrhea.
Random remedies for dog diarrhea
If the cause of the diarrhea is known and the dog has no other symptoms, the most effective treatment is usually abstention from food for several hoursduring which the animal should be encouraged to drink water. In the next few days, the dog should be nourished only with easily digestible food. The symptoms of diarrhea can be treated giving preparations to the dog without prescription, such as Smecta or tannin. The protective use of a probiotic is also recommended.
Treatment of chronic diarrhea in dogs
The master should not allow his quadruped to develop long -term diarrhea. If the symptom does not disappear alone after 1-2 days, you have to go to the vet which will diagnose the source of the disease and apply appropriate therapy. Due to the multitude of conditions that can cause diarrhea in the dog, the doctor can order blood tests and chair and even imaging tests (ultrasound, X -rays). Additional treatment depends on the test results. If the parasites are detected in the digestive system, the doctor will recommend the dog’s red. Food infections are treated with antibiotics. More serious diseases may also require surgery. In any case, the dog should be administered drips with electrolytes, vitamins and proteins.
