Is it a good idea to buy an indoor dog cage? Is it a solution only for aggressive dogs? Do you need the dog or only to the teacher? Finally, what should you choose to better serve its purpose?

More and more often, an element appears in the list of articles for a puppy: the internal cage. Both when it comes to large dogs, considered dangerous, such as Amstaff or Pitbull, as well as Maltese or York Gentle. Their main function is to limit the dog space in the house, but the cage not only helps the masters – correctly introduced, can become the dog’s favorite resting place.

Why buy an interior cage for the puppy?

Until a few years ago, few owners would have thought of keeping a dog in the cage. A hamster, a parrot – yes – but a dog, a family friend? At that time, the cages for cans were found only to breeders who were forced to separate dogs. A cage is naturally associated with slavery, so we wonder if it is really the best solution for a quadruped friend. However, when we look at the world through the eyes of a dog, we see that an adequate cage creates a safe place for the dog – isolated, familiar, closed by a potentially dangerous world – it sounds better. It is not?

A puppy who initially «lives» in a new home cage is more able to cope with separation anxiety, learns quickly to maintain hygiene and has the feeling of a safe place. However, in order for this to happen, all the needs of the dog and dog behavioral behaviors must be satisfied and only then the dog should be returned to the cage. Otherwise, the dog will feel the frustration of being closed and not being able to make them.

For the owner, the cage is an excellent solution to avoid damage that can be caused by a puppy left alone at home. According to the opinion of specialists in canine behavior, the introduction of a cage into the apartment is a safe solution for all dogs – and, in many cases, a way to eliminate many behavioral problems.

How do you get used to the dog?

From the beginning, it is important to make sure it is positively associated. Once the cage is purchased, allow the dog to get used to it. You can cover the walls with a blanket to create a comfortable and slightly dark place. Ideally, the dog is the one who chooses to sit in the cage, rather than being closed. When we see that the quadruped is restless when the door is closed, we must receive some time. In the first days, we press the stay in the cage with prizes and we can also feed the dog in the cage or to offer it our favorite toys.

It is important to never let the dog blocked in the cage «as punishment». If possible, block the cage only when necessary, in all other moments allow the dog to enter and leave the cage free.

Internal Cage – A refuge for your dog

When choosing an internal cage for your dog, it is essential to consider the size of the dog. It must be large enough so that it can sit and be comfortably. When choosing a cage for a puppy, it is necessary to make sure it has space on one side – on the other side for the rugs to learn how to make their needs.

When you buy a cage, you also have to consider if you use it only at home or, for example, you will take it with you when you travel – on vacation, sports competitions or exhibitions. In this case, we are limited by the size of the trunk and it is positive that it is not too heavy – after all, someone will have to do it.

Metal or textile cage?

The most popular are metal and textile cages. Both are intended for small and large dogs, being more common for the owners to choose the metal for large and strong dogs, while a cage for a small dog is often made of fabric. It is also worth knowing that metal ones are considered one of the safest ways to transport a dog by car: a fabric cage does not provide such safety. You should also consider your dog’s temperament when choosing one: a dog with destructive tendencies will quickly destroy a cage in the fabric. For this reason, a fabric cage is not recommended for a dog that is not yet used to sitting in the cage, as it can easily escape.

A tailor -made cage?

While for a dog a cage has almost only advantages, the owners are often horrified by the idea that their home will be crowded with this type of «furniture». This is the reason why personalized cage manufacturers have a solution. It is not an economic solution, but thanks to it, we can create a place for the dog perfectly adapted to our house. Such cages – usually made of wood – can have shape, color or design.
