Boerboel is not recognized in the FCI classification. It is an original breed of South Africa and is recorded at the Kennel Club in this country. It is known how the African Boerboel breeding dog and the name of the race itself means a free -translation farm dog. This South African mastiff was used by African farmers to defend their homes and also to fight babe or large cats. Supervision, special courage and self -confidence are characteristics of these dogs to date.
Boerboel Dog – The History of the Race
Boerboel originates in the old Molosser. They have always used their size, strength, courage and determination. The main task entrusted to South African mastiffs was to protect and supervise all the assets of Africans and their families. In addition, Boerboel was expected to participate in fights between dogs, wars and battles, as well as hunting, for example babe or Pume and Leopardi. Interestingly, in the most difficult moments, the females bootbools have been modeled to obtain milk.
Cape city and the year around 1650 are considered the time and place of standardization of dogs in this breed, but it was not a planned growth, but the spontaneous formation of a certain type of dog, among others, isolating the colonist groups. The growth activity to improve South African mastiffs began only around 1980 in South Africa. 3 years later, the first club was formed with lovers of the race. The Boerboel breed is not recognized by the International Kennel Federation, but is recorded at the Kennel South African Kusa Club, which allows dogs to participate in canine exhibitions, but without the possibility of winning a champion title.
What do I wait for a dog in the Boerboel breed?
Boerboel dogs are large and corpulent. There is a great sexual dwelling in this breed and the female is smaller and lighter than the male. When he interacts with his reliable people, the South African mastiff is very affectionate and kind. He likes children, even if contacts should always be under the supervision of an adult.
Boerboel is better to live in a garden house. This dog needs a lot of its territory capable of patrolling and protecting. No foreigner will violate the territory of a dog in this breed or foreign animals. The boerboel barking only when necessary, and in critical situations it emits a strong, deep and serious sound, which can evoke a laughter of a lion. In relation to other dogs, it is not compulsive and non -conflicting. Boerboel if it is not necessary to attack, but if necessary, he will defend their resources, people and the place.
The health of the South African mastiff
The Boerboel dog has a predisposition to musculoskeletal disorders, being more commonly influenced by the dysplasia of the hip or elbow and the dislocation of different types. In order to minimize the risk of these problems, the Boerboel dog should not be allowed to jump, climb or go down the stairs when it is a puppy. In adulthood, after consulting a veterinarian or livestock, integration with unsaturated fatty acids of omega 3 and glucosamine and chondroitin can be introduced, which have shown to strengthen the dog’s joints. It is good to periodically check the dog’s health to detect any health problem in time.
The average life expectancy of a dog in the Boerboel breed is 10 to 12 years.

The price for a bootboel puppy varies around 4000 – 5000 Ron. If you want to buy a puppy from this breed, you have to spend some time looking for a bootboel breed dog. It is very difficult to find such a refuge, most of the shelters of this race are in Russia and Asia. A further difficulty is that Boerboel is not recognized in FCI, which makes it difficult to respect the exact aspect, the characteristic aspect of dogs and growth standards. This can lead to irregularities of growth. If, however, you decide to get a bootboel puppy, carefully check the goalkeeper, visit the place where dogs are kept and ask the most important questions: the health of dogs, vaccinations, subsequent generations of dogs and the socialization process. Remember that Boerboel specimens recorded at the South American Canine Club (Kusa) can only participate in canine exhibitions; Dogs of other clubs are not authorized to participate.
The Boerboel dog is part of a large breed, which makes the average monthly maintenance costs, on average about 500 Ron.
