The Bengal Cat is originally from the United States. The origins of the breed date back to 1963, when a domestic cat was crossed with a wild point of reference. In its current form, the race dates back to the 80s. In 1985, he was obtained by Jean Mill and a year later he was recorded by the International Cat Association (Tica). At the same time, the association requested that all the exhibition cats were pure Bengala – there should be no other breeds among the ancestors up to four generations ago. The purpose of this measure was to perpetuate and defend all the desirable characteristics.
The silhouette of the Bengala cat
Bengal cats are medium -sized. Females reach maturity around the age of 1 and males around the age of 2. The representatives of this breed reach about 35 cm in size and 4-7 kg of body weight. They have a very developed muscles, which makes them very strong and robust. Their head is small in relation to the trunk, longer than wide, with a rounded shape and a strong chin. You notice the prominent mustache and the high and raised cheeks. The ears are medium -sized, positioned and wide at the base. They give the impression of being constantly in obedience and vigilant. Bengal’s eyes are large, oval or slightly almonds, very distant, green, yellow, brown or golden.
Bengal cats have short fur. The fur is silky to the touch, dense and strictly attaches to the body. In some, a «glitter» effect is observed: the impression of a sprinkled gold powder. A characteristic characteristic of the appearance of the Bengal cat is the colored paint, which reaches its final appearance when the animal is 6 months. The fur can vary depending on the color and the most desired are:
- Carbone – on blue background spots and black stripes,
- Leopardo – On an orange or sandy background with black and brown spots,
- Marble – on a brown background, darker in the edges than in the center,
- Sorrel – dark brown spots on a yellow -orange background.
Bengala Cat – behavior and character
Bengal cats have a lively character. They are extremely energetic. They like the company of people, in particular children eager to play. They are attached to the human family. In order to keep them in perfect condition, their food must have a high protein content, preference by 40%. They can be nourished with gossip and ready food.

Bengal cats are rarely sick. Their most common conditions are the deficiency of Chinase, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and progressive retina atrophy. Bengal cats do not need special care. It is sufficient that they are brushed once a week. Forgive very few hair. From time to time, of course, the ears must be checked and, if necessary, the claws must be cut.
