The Argentine dog – The history of the race

The story of this breed is less than a century – was born in the province of Córdoba in Argentina. The purpose of its creator, Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez, was to raise a dog that is ideal as a guard and hunter, being at the same time balanced and family -oriented. To this end, it was crossed with combat dogs. Among the dogs used for the crossings were the German hunting dog, the boxer, the Spanish mastiff, the Bulldog, the Bullier, the great dog, the pointer, the Irish wolf dog and the Bordeaux dog.

It is the only native breed in Argentina and is very popular in its native country: it is used in hunting and uniform services. In Europe, the race is the most popular in France, Italy and Russia.

The Argentine dog is a large, strong and robust mastiff dog, which reaches a weight of 36 – 45 kg and a life of 62 cm – 68 cm (males), 60 cm – 65 cm (females). The fur is short, well closed and smooth. The fur is always white: only a dark point is accepted around the eyes.

Argentine dog – Health, needs, care

The Argentine dog is generally a resistant and robust dog, but due to the white color of his fur, he is subject to deafness. For this reason, it is recommended to perform a baer test in dogs at the age of 7-8 weeks to detect unilateral deafness, which is difficult to see in everyday life. In addition, they can be subject to food allergies and, like most large races – are mainly affected by the dysplasia of the hip and elbow. And in old age, it can suffer from osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease of the joints.

A dog’s fur in this breed is easy to take care. You just have to brush it from two to three times a week, using a brush for short hair.

The price of an Argentine dog varies around 2000 Ron, depending on the kennel. He is not a popular dog, so sometimes you have to wait for the Argentine dog. Due to the complex nature of the breed, it is important to buy the dog only from a proven farm!
